Daily Devotion 14/11/2025.
Leaving Bethel, Jacob and his clan moved on toward Ephrath. But Rachel went into labor while they were still some distance away. Her labour pains were intense. After a very hard delivery, the midwife finally exclaimed, “Don’t be afraid—you have another son!” Rachel was about to die,
But with her last breath she named the baby BEN-ONI which means “Son of my sorrow”. Jacob, however, called him BENJAMIN which means “Son of my strength”. (Genesis 35:16-18)
Rachel was the love of Jacob's life. However, family traditions and barreness plagued her efforts. The blood sister she loved and honoured had become her lover's wife. She was not a happy woman. After a hard delivery, she gave up fighting and started dying, but not without a bitter wish.
Rachel's dying wish was for her innocent baby to be named BEN-ONI, meaning "Son of my sorrow." Everyone obeyed immediately. In their mind, it was a dying wish, something sacred. Then, Jacob came. He heard the dying wish of his dead wife and rejected it immediately!
He had encountered the Lord. Now, he makes his decisions by God's Word, and not by any dying wish. Had Jacob not intervened, Rachel's dying wish would have destroyed the destiny of that innocent child by attracting demons freely. Some people are in bondage today because of a dying wish.
You should not make your decisions by the unscriptural wish of a dead relative, friend, ...etc, but by God's Word. You must be very careful because a lot die with unforgiveness, bitterness, revenge...etc, in their soul.
Too costly dear! You are living in bondage. Change it with God's Word, and move on to higher heights in Jesus mighty name! God bless you.
